Sam Says

Sea of Thieves: Sam's favorite pirate game

Sea of Thieves Trailer

What's special about it?

Sea of Thieves is a great game. This is a game that is very easy to play, but extremely hard to master. This game has a very high skill ceiling, which is what attracted me to the game initially. This game has it all, short and long voyages. Tall tales (longer story arcs) with notable characters such as Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Monkey Island (younger gamers may not be familiar with Monkey Island), and much more. The highlight of this game for me is the open world and PvP. This game is also not about grinding. Everyone's characters are the same, and have access to all the same weapons and choices. Everything you work for is 100% cosmetic. Some are paid, others are earned through in game achievements and milestones.

This is a game where it is basically a sand box. There really isn’t a "win" condition set in stone. It is all for the players to decide. When I play, I like to throw up my Reaper flag, and look for people who have a lot of treasure, and quite frankly... go sink their ship and steal all their treasure. I do that a few times, and after I make about 1 million in gold, I call it a night because I "won". When you have a lot of treasure on your ship, you have to take that treasure to outpost to sell. The best part of this, is you have to unload each and every piece of treasure one by one. So, if you have 100 pieces of treasure, you are making 100 trips back and forth to your ship between you and your crew mates. The time between sailing to the outpost, and actually selling is heart pounding because anyone can attack you at any time. Yes, I am "one of those" people. Now rest assured, I have been playing long enough to know when I am hunting new or experienced players, and other players like myself have no interest in new players, because chances are you have nothing of value to players like us. So do not let this deter you from giving this gem a fair shot.

They also recently added a mode called Safer Seas that allows new players to play in a world by themselves with friends to learn the game before being thrown into the real game where you can be attacked anytime by other players. In Safer Seas you earn far less gold and experience as well. Not every player is cut throat pirate. Many people are friendly and will alliance with you as well. There are also fun world bosses and world events to encounter. They have a Kraken, Megalodon, Skeleton Ship Fleet, Ghost Ship Fleet, Forts of The Damned, etc. There is so much to do and see.

Let me tell you, no other game has water as beautiful as this game. I know what you are thinking "Sam, water? really?", but yes, think about it! You are a pirate on a ship, in the ocean, what you see most is... yes, you guessed it, water! The day and night cycles are amazing too. The weather system also makes for a fun time. This game is 100% about game knowledge and teamwork. The only down side, is sometimes it can take a while to get places because you are against the wind, or the objective is on the other side of the map. This game requires a minimum of 2 hours if you want to get anything done. Regardless of this, this is a must play game, trust me. This is a game for anyone seeking THE pirate experience. Fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, Monkey Island, and Black Sails will love this game. Regardless of this, this is a must play game, trust me.
