Total War: Warhammer III: Sam's favorite strategy game
Total War: Warhammer III Trailer
What's special about it?
The Total War: Warhammer series is a grand experience. Since the first one came out back in 2016, they have slowly been building to get to this point. Each game is basically 1/3
of the entire map. Now that the third and final piece is released, all three games combine to make one huge game. This mode is called Immortal Empires. There are so many factions to
choose from, and all of them have varying styles of play. Best of all, now there is multiplayer for up to 8 players. I know this number sounds small, but it is not, not for this game
I assure you. This story is amazing, and has a different ending for each faction available. After you win your first game, you will be hooked.
In this game you choose a faction, build up a city and army and basically try to conquer the world. You can make alliances, go to war, barter, etc. What makes this game so much
fun is if you enjoy RTS games like StarCraft, and strategy games like Risk, well this game basically takes the best of both worlds and blends them together for an amazing experience.
When you are playing the game, it appears like a board game, and it is turn based like a traditional board game. However, when you go to war with someone, you can choose to auto resolve
it, if you know your army will win easily, or you can choose to play it out. When you play it out, you control each and every unit. The armies are vast. Things like wind, and terrain all
matter. For example, if you have archers you want to position them on top of a hill, and with the wind as much as possible. Or, if you have an army that has a strong calvary, you may want
to position them lying in wait, and then mid battle ambush the enemies back line. Things like this make for exciting battles. It even has castle sieges.
In this game the factions are everything from elf’s, orcs, vampires, lizard men, rat men, demons, etc. You name it and it is probably in here. Each faction has a different play style
in addition to multiple generals within the faction and they all play very differently. When you play with friends you can choose to play together against the AI or an all-out Free for All.
I prefer the Free for All's and its very Game of Thrones like, when you play with friends. Each faction has a point in the game where they become extremely dangerous, and once I am at that
point friends will usually make me deals with bartering or gold to alliance with them and promise not to attack them. However, if you've seen Game of Thrones, then you know people back stab
each other at every turn, and I am no different. I will take their gold, accept their offers, and then as soon as it is my turn, the nearest one is massacred Red Wedding style.
This game is very unique, requires a lot of strategy and has an extremely high learning curve, but once you get over that learning curve this game offers thousands off hours of fun.
Another pro/con for this game, it depends on your budget, is how much DLC it has. Remember when I said the game has been out since 2016, and it combines 3 games into one game? Well, all that
DLC is also combined into one game. If you are going to try this game out, I recommend getting it in the upcoming Steam Sales, either for Black Friday, or the end of December's Winter Sale.
If one was to buy these games at full price and all the DLC it is easily hundreds of dollars. Now I am not saying these DLCs are not worth it, because they are, I am just saying this is probably
one of the most expensive games you will ever play because of the size and scope of the game. Even if you do not own all the DLCs, you can still play against any faction, you just cannot use
that faction yourself. If you are looking for a good place to start, I would say purchase either Total War: Warhammer 2, or Total War: Warhammer 3's base games.
